If you decide to live in Korea for study or work, you may need to open a bank account at some point. A Korean bank account is certainly useful for making payments and transactions, but also for receiving money, especially when you start working.<\/span><\/p>\n

Who can open a bank account in Korea?<\/h2>\n

First of all, let’s see who should open a bank account in Korea.<\/span><\/p>\n

If you will be traveling for a short period of time, you will most likely not need a bank account in Korea and you will only need a credit card (travel rewards card or a credit card that can be used overseas) or cash in Korean won.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, if you are staying in Korea for 2-3 months to study and attend a language course, having your own Korean bank account may come in handy. Schools only refund or accept payment by bank transfer, so you will need to have your own account in place. You can easily open an account even if you are not a long-term resident, and you will only need to show your passport.<\/span><\/p>\n
