The Korean Language Institute (KLI) at Yeungnam University was founded in 2002 to help international students who are interested in learning the Korean Language and culture and also help those interested in furthering their academic career with Yeungnam University. The KLI offers courses that are focused on four skills: listening, speaking, reading, writing. They also offer a variety of cultural programs for the students in order for them to gain a better understanding of Korea.

LANGUAGE EXCHANGE PROGRAM (LEP)

Two KLI students and two Korean students are paired to study together for 30 hours over 10 weeks. All Level 2 or above KLI students are eligible.

ACCEPTS BEGINNER STUDENTS

Don’t worry if you’ve never learned any Korean before. The school offers courses that start from the very basics designed to let students from any country or language background learn easily!

ENGLISH-SPEAKING STAFF AVAILABLE

The staff are professionals who will be able to assist you with any issues you may have during your studies.

SPECIAL TOPIK CLASS

If you are a Korean language student at Yeungnam you can apply for a special TOPIK preparation class if your level is above intermediate.

STUDENT LOUNGE AVAILABLE

A comfortable space where you can do some studying, mix and mingle with your fellow students, or even just take a break.

One of the best parts of being a student is the student dorm – the school operates dormitories which are all close to the school, making them one of the cheapest and most convenient options for student housing.

Gyeongsan City is a neighboring city of Daegu Metropolitan City, the 3rd largest city in Korea. The university is also located in a university town where many local students gather. It takes about 30 minutes to go from the university to downtown Daegu City by subway. The university is very close to public transportation such as the subway, buses, and taxis. Gyeongsan Railway Station is 5 minutes away from the university. The Korean Language Institute of Yeungnam University is on the 3rd floor of the International Building, just beside the main gate of the university.

REGULAR PROGRAM

REGULAR PROGRAM

Our regular courses focus on speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Topics include pop culture, current events, and more. Classes use textbooks and other materials on a daily basis. In addition to classroom instruction, our teachers lead field trips off campus to help with your immersion in a Korean-speaking environment.

Total course costs

The total costs include the application fee (KRW 50,000) and the tuition. The application fee is not refundable. Other cost details are below:

  • Textbook: About KRW 64,000 per term.
  • School health insurance (Optional): About KRW 120,000 for 6 months of coverage.
  • Please contact your coordinator for more information about the dormitory or fee structure.

• Learning consonants and vowels of the Korean alphabet (Hangul).
• Acquiring the fundamental sound system of the Korean language.
• Studying basic words, expressions, and sentence structures of daily life.
• Learning how to read, write, and say simple daily life sentences.

LEVEL 2

• Using fundamental vocabulary and Korean language in daily life.
• Making sentences by using acquired words and expressions.
• Reading letters, text messages, and public notices.
• Learning how to read, write, and speak in compound sentences.

LEVEL 3

• Understanding most expressions and vocabulary in daily life.
• Learning basic words and expressions for business and social events.
• Understanding the systems of written language and spoken language.
• Learning how to read, write, and speak complex and complex-compound sentences.

LEVEL 4

• Learning abstract and conceptual vocabulary and expressions by reading newspapers.
• Understanding idiomatic expressions and old sayings.
• Learning how to make reports and documents.
• Understanding some parts of news programs and newspapers.

LEVEL 5

• Learning professional vocabulary and expressions.
• Understanding and using words used in politics, economy, and culture.
• Acquiring informal and formal expressions with written and spoken language.

LEVEL 6

• Communication on diverse topics, including politics, economics, society, culture, etc.
• Fluent linguistic functions necessary in professional fields.
