Part-time work is a key part of your personal development, as well as being a great way to practise the foreign language you’re studying while living abroad. But how do you find a part-time job in Korea? We will explain it in this article.
Find a part-time job in Korea on Albachonkuk and Albamon
With a D-4 student visa, it is possible to work part-time in Korea for up to 20 hours per week, after the first 6 months of language training. For the work permit you will first need to apply by receiving approval from the school and then obtain the official permit from Immigration.
The most popular way to find a part-time job in Korea is through two online platforms: Albachonkuk 알바천국 and Albamon 알바몬.
These are recruitment sites used by Koreans, where you can find any kind of job, in various fields: bars and restaurants, fast food, clothing shops, general office, and so on. In order to access the various jobs and see the details, you will have to register on the site first. You can also download the app on your mobile phone, if it is more convenient for you to navigate.
Please note that it is important to have a basic level of Korean to be able to find a part-time job in Korea and communicate with customers, colleagues and employers. Additionally, you will need at least a TOPIK 2 or higher to work up to 20 hours a week. Not having a TOPIK score or having just TOPIK 1 only allows you to work up to 10 hours a week.
Search
You can search by job type, search by 브랜드알바 “Brand part” (restaurant, customer service, cosmetics, etc.) or directly by 채용정보 (job type).
Clicking on one of the “brands” will take you to another page where you can select your preferences, related to the duration of the job or the daily schedule. Some useful words at this stage are:
- 근무기간: period of employment
- 근무요일: working day (which days of the week you want to work)
- 근무시간: working hours (morning, afternoon, evening)
- 경기 남양주: area, city district
- 기업명: name of the company that will hire you
- 급여: salary, whether hourly or monthly
- 근무시간: working hours
Once you have selected the job you are interested in, you will be taken to the “online registration” stage 온라인 지원.
Online registration
On the page dedicated to the job position, information on hours, pay, duties, etc. is again summarized. The requirements for the position are also specified. The level of Korean is not indicated because, as mentioned before, it is a recruitment site for Koreans, so it is assumed that you already know the language.
If you want to find a part-time job in Korea, we recommend that you register on the site first. If so, you can apply for the job immediately without having to spend time filling in all your details. Sometimes it is enough to attach your CV/resume in Korean, other times it is possible to fill one out online directly on these job search platforms.
To fill in your CV/resume online, you will need to click on the 온라인 지원 button and then log in (회원 로그인). At this point, you can enter all the relevant information about your work experience, what kind of job you are looking for, your educational qualifications, and also indicate the languages you know (e.g. Korean, Italian, English).
At the end of compiling your online resume you can print it out, and hand it in manually if necessary, or keep it in the platform for future applications, and edit it if you wish. However, the format is rather simple, so it is not suitable for full-time jobs.
If your application is accepted, the manager or employer will contact you directly and explain how to proceed with an interview, or to provide other information.
